  1. Aloha e Kim -

Some months ago, I discovered your singing and am impressed no end. It is so great how you treat Hawaiian music with feeling and delicacy, not just belting it out like so many others. I have been playing slack key for some 12 years. My favorite piece of music – bar none – is Makana’s arrangement of Ka Wailele O Nu’uanu. I hope you will record it sometime as I am sure you will give it the ultimate interpretation. Noting that you are from Koloa, I suppose you are related to Sueoka’s market where I have shopped on many trips. Small world. I have suggested to Lynn Piccoli to have the Lau Hawaiian Collective on Pakele Live if that is possible. I hope to see you there one of these days. Also, if you are ever in the Seattle area, I will certainly be there to hear you. Keep up the great work. I look forward to getting my copy of Wai.

    • Aloha e Mark!
Thank you so much for this beautiful post! I also love Makana’s Ka Wailele o Nu’uanu – such a beautiful arrangement, and so artfully, gracefully played/sung…Yes, my family is the Sueoka Store family of Koloa, and my parents still live on the south shore, along with some cousins, and many aunties and uncles (of relation and of no relation)! Lau Hawaiian Collective would love to do anything with Pakele Live, and we’re really hoping to do some festival shows, concert series, and/or educational activities – please let me know if you have any suggestions about organizations we should sent our press materials to! I’ll be sure to let you know if we are in the Seattle area, and perhaps we can hear you play too!

      So many good wishes,
      Kim
